2015 – 2016 Season
PANAMA CITY POPS SCORES ITS 20th SEASON!
What once was a small troupe of musicians is now a formidable 65-piece, local orchestra performing world-class symphonic music right here in Bay County, and its twentieth season opens Saturday.
The Panama City POPS Orchestra, led by Artistic Director and Maestro Eddie Rackley, presents “A Taste of Vienna,” 7:30 pm at the Marina Civic Center.
The Panama City POPS concerts are traditionally a combination of familiar, light classical works and popular arrangements. The evening’s program will be more than musically rewarding as the orchestra serves a delicious array of Vienna’s most beloved composers.
The music of Franz Schubert mounts the first half of the concert program as the orchestra performs “Symphony in B minor,” also known as the “Unfinished Symphony,” followed by the composer’s “Rosamunde Overture.”
“It’s going to be an evening of beautiful music,” states Maestro Eddie Rackley on the eve of his tenth season at the POPS podium, “nothing but beautiful music, romantic and uplifting.” Other pieces on the program for the evening include works by Viennese masters Mozart and the brothers Strauss.
“The Panama City POPS is comprised of the best classical performers from the local area and the region,” comments POPS Board of Directors President, Michael Dickey. “The quality of every POPS performance is consistently on par with the country’s best symphony orchestras. Our audience will be delighted with tonight’s performance.”
Concert dates for the remainder of the 2015-2016 season are January 16, March 12 and May 7, 2016.
