Welcome to a night of romance. The POPS proves that classical composers and pop composers alike are lovers and romantics. Fall in love with the sensual Susanna of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. Swoon to the music of Tchaikovsky’s passionate Romeo and Juliet.
Tonight The POPS welcomes guest soprano Maija Lisa Currie. Hailed by the New York Times in 2008 as “an attractive young soprano with a promising voice and copious stage presence,” Ms. Currie has performed internationally with such companies as Opernhaus Zürich, Indianapolis Opera, Kentucky Opera, Mobile Opera, Spoleto Festival USA, and the Züricher Festspeile.
Ms. Currie’s repertoire and experience spans from operatic leads to Broadway, and from Handel to premiere performances by new composers. Ms. Currie completed a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and a Performance Diploma in Opera from Indiana University, and Master of Music degree in Voice from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. She now resides in Destin, and teaches on the faculty at Northwest Florida State College.
Topping it all off are songs of love and marriage played as only the POPS can do. It will be a spectacular night that may leave you saying, “I do.”
