2012 – 2013 Season
BEETHOVEN, INTERNATIONAL TRIO TO
TOP POPS SEASON FINALE ON MAY 4
The Panama City POPS Orchestra completes its regular season at the Marina Civic Center on Saturday, May 4, 7:30 p.m. with three highly acclaimed guest musicians.
Equally in demand as concert soloists, the trio of Canadian pianist Christine Yoshikawa, Russian-born cellist Alexei Romanenko and Armenian violinist Levon Margaryan will join the orchestra to perform Ludwig Von Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.
Characterized as “polite entertainment” in the Napoleonic era, the concerto is comprised of three movements. The trio and orchestra will play the first movement, the allegro movement, which is broadly scaled and lends an air of graciousness, pomp and nobility.
“This work is not often heard,” states Maestro Eddie Rackley, “because it requires three outstanding musicians to play it. Christine, Alexei and Levon will do it justice.” The piece features solo, duet and trio performances, undergirded by the orchestra.
The May 4 concert marks Ms. Yoshikawa’s third appearance with The Panama City POPS and is the first for Mssrs. Romanenko and Margaryan.
“These are world-class musicians,” stated Connie Gittard, President of the orchestra’s Board of Directors. “We are committed to keeping classical music alive in our region. Aficionados will not be disappointed, and newcomers will be most impressed.”
The concert program will mount its traditional first half of classical works, including pieces by Smetana, Saint-Saens and Glinka. After intermission, the second half is always comprised of more familiar popular music. “If you love the music of the movies, you’ll love this concert,” said Ms. Gittard.
Graduating Students
Established as a mentoring orchestra, The Panama City POPS invites advanced student musicians of all ages to audition. If qualified, they are mentored by current POPS musicians who help guide and teach them while giving them the opportunity to play and perform with an orchestra.
Completing the program with their final performance on May 4 are graduates Sarah Peavler and Kacy Atwell.

The second is of the custom designed jewelry called “POPS,” created and donated by David Adamson Designer Jewelry. The work is actually 10 pieces of jewelry, each a replica of a musical instrument, composed of sterling silver, gemstones and pearls.
